Fran Recchia
Photos:

In November 2011 Fran competed with Rebecca and Ian in Team kata at the JKS Nationals.
Date of Birth: 27th December 1973
Home Town: Born in Lytham St.Annes, but now live in a village just outside York.
Date entered martial arts: It was around June 1983 at the age of 9. My 2 older sisters started before me but I was too young according to my Mum and Dad. We then found out if 3 kids from the same family trained the third didn’t have to pay. My 1 night a week training soon turned into 5 nights a week up until I left home for University in 1992.
Date entered Selby Shotokan Karate Club: I joined Selby Shotokan Karate club in January 2011 following a 14 year break. This was because I was in the Army travelling the world and was never in one place for long enough to focus on my karate.
Karate Highs: I have several, but probably achieving my Shodan with Sensei Kanazawa (senior). I didn’t find out until the next day when my instructor Sensei Richard Burns came to my school and presented me with my black belt, which I still wear with pride today. I was also pretty chuffed when I started training again that I could still fit into my trusty old Gi that I wore when I was 15!!
Karate Lows: Leaving training behind me for so many years.
Favourite Kata: Empi
Karate Ambitions: To train more in order to achieve San Dan. To also see Louis and Finlay progress and grow to love karate as much as I do.
Other Interests: As a PE teacher, anything to do with playing sport, watching sport and learning new sports!! I also love to sing, ski, cook and drink wine with my family and friends.
