Date of Birth: 13th December 1979
Home Town: Doncaster, South Yorkshire
Date entered martial arts: September 1998
Date entered Selby Shotokan Karate Club: October 2010
Karate Highs: JKS Japan Trip 2012, gaining Shodan on first attempt with Yamaguichi Sensei, having regular access to Brown & Black belt courses and other courses providing tuition from some of the best Karateka in the world.
Karate Lows: 8 year break in training
Favourite Kata: Heian Nidan – first Kata with a kick and a lot going on in the bunkai for the kick section at such an early stage. The Kata as a whole I feel is quite a large leap from Heian Shodan.
Karate Ambitions: 3rd Dan before I’m 40. Grade in the Hombu Dojo. Learn/try to work out more Bunkai. Do my best and hopefully encourage/inspire others to do the same.
Other Interests: Kettlebells, Field Archery, Hillwalking. Spending time with my wife and 2 boys.

Junro Sandan – I really like the theme and it provides me with memories of the the particularly good training session where I learnt it.
Bassai Dai – I feel it is quintessential to Shotokan.
Empi – I find it challenging.
Sochin – Surprised myself (and Sensei) by learning the moves in the right order as a 9th Kyu.
Meikyo – easy to pick up, very difficult to master.
